when i began an interview series, i advertised it as having two, pretentious but sincere, objectives.
the expansion of perspective.
the fostering of empathy.
i wrote:
from athletes to artists, journalists to musicians to activists, the raided series is an incisive examination of mutual humanity.
with a focus on compassion, the collection compiles gritty, earnest conversation with some of australia’s most talented people.
i was particularly interested in male athletes. i had ambitious plans to interview players from every aflm team, challenge them in a constructive way, develop relationships, and further the connection between sport, idols and community.
this was before the outbreak of the coronavirus. the second and last interview published as part of the series was with callum brown, my childhood friend.
